The techniques recently adopted are much safer since connected to circuits. The explosive cartridges made of particularly stable nitrogelatines , once positioned in the hole are connected to a detonator (a small charge that triggers the explosion) and the latter in a sequential cycle to the electric cables and the electric cap supplying the electric charge needed by the "volata".

After completing the circuit the miner can leave the yard and when safe he can ignite the explosion with absolute certainty of the result. To warn the workers in the areas adjoining the explosion's, and to allow them to evacuate the area, a siren is operated.
