The displayed drill is a relatively recent model, in fact it is equipped with servosupport, the lever supporting it (in the past the miners held it up manually) and of a water jet coming out from the steel which allows the cleaning of the hole with consequent reduction of the dust.

In the past this work was carried out without water and the dust lifted and breathed by the miners provoked silicosis, a true scourge of the mines which provoked the death of a lot of miners.
