In the beginning the layer of talc was discovered thanks to the presence of numerous outcrops, mostly located on the top of the slopes. The first galleries (end 1800) were directly dug in correspondence of these crops, therefore at height among 1800-2000 meters.

They were narrow and unstable shafts. Little by little thanks to more modern techniques as the drillings, the exact position of the layer was detected and they began mining more rationally. The talc was brought down from the upper mines through tilted plans and decauville. In 1893 a mixed transport system, composed by decauville and cableways was inaugurated on the orographic right slope. From Sapatlè, the talc reached Perrero, at the "Bridge of the Old one", at 806 meters.
