Robbie is a Black Cob Pony. He is good looking and good-natured, and has a loud snore. He is 1.5 m height (14 hands and 3 inches) and was born in 1991.

He used to work in Pant-y-Gasseg drift mine, near Pontypool, South Wales. He worked alongside five men in the mine, and hauled one-tonne wagons 500 yards from the coal face to the mine entrance. He worked 8am to 4pm, five days a week. At weekends, he had the run of a nearby field. He was replaced by machinery.

He was strong-willed and made sure he got his own way. At the end of the shift he was ready to clock off and have his feed.

He is now on loan to the NCMME from the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, http://www.rspca.org.uk).
