Mining Strikes

Mining families during the 1984/5 strike often lived on a very small amount of money. In many mining areas it was commonplace for the woman to stay at home and look after the children, or if she had a job it did not always provide a high wage. When a miner went on strike he received no wages or benefits and often the only money that a family received was a minimal amount from the government in the form of family benefits, but this alone was not enough for a family to live on. This ceramic stud box was sold during the 1984/5 strike in order to raise money for funds.
