Many people still want to remember the various coal mining strikes as it was an important part of their lives or family history. Commemorative objects were often produced after strikes, such as the 1893 trays shown earlier, both to mark the events and to help with funds. This plate was issued by the Kent Area National Union of Mineworkers to commemorate the strike. It shows many images associated with the strike including soup kitchens, a picket hut and mounted police. Although the last coal strike was 20 years ago people still have very vivid memories of it.
