During the major coal strikes, miners and their families would often struggle to survive and were unable to buy items such as food and clothing. In order to raise money for these struggling families many items were made and sold. This commemorative tray is believed to have been sold to raise funds for mining families following the 1893 lockout. It is one of a pair in the Museum collections.
