Transport underground is used to not only to carry the coal but also to carry the miners. Modern day mines often use conveyor belts to transport the coal from underground to the surface, but also coal mine cars pulled by electric locomotives are used for this purpose. The miners would be transported through the mine by small manriding trains like the one pictured here. This locomotive is still used today on the surface of the Museum to give visitors the chance to experience what it would have been like to ride on one.
