Mine Gianna: a jump back in history

Yard 55 was the last to be active (closed in 1995).
The diesel shovels actually employed were tested down there. Since it wasn't possible to carry them directly to the yard (owing to their remarkable size) they were disassembled in the square in front of the entrance and reassembled in the yard.

Once verified the efficiency of the equipments these mines were closed and the whole activity transferred to the opposite slope.
Actually only one mine is working its entrance by Pomeifré (5 Kms downhill). Yard 55 can still be reached from level "Gianna", too.
