Galena exploitation

Bellmunt Mines are situated in the Priorat where the richest galena deposits in Catalogna are to be found . The mine has been exploited since ancient times, but in 1873 a peasant usually achieved only a small exploitation of the mine where the metal outcropped close to the surface, selling the lands to another company when the seams had to be mined at much greater depths. The mine was closed in 1972
