The coal mines of Fumanya at the border of the province of Figols i de Vallcebre were exploited between 1947 and 1954 by means of underground galleries through which the lignite was extracted. Later around 1980 the exploitation became larger becoming a great mine under the open sky. This place presents a great geologic, mining and paleontological interest. The ancient coal exploitation offers an excellent example of a mine under the open sky besides the privilege to be able to observe a limestone wall where an impressive number of tracks of dinosaur appears. Currently they are working at a project to create a geologic, mining and paleontological research center.
