Her mother made a rag rug while waiting for her children to get home, Elsie was gone for nearly two hours and well, Harold was gone for a countless number of hours. Soon enough Harold burst in trailing mud onto her fresh new carpet.
"Hi mum I....."He hid his shoes and shut the door behind him so he could blame it on Elsie.
"You be quite young boy, your sisters a silly girl," She stared at him longingly."She's gone and lost our ration book and with weather like this she and that ration book will be a wet mop."
"But mum I..." She pointed to the bath tin trying to shut him up so she can be dismayed alone. Elsie stormed him and ran in the room hoping her mum wasn't there.
"Well, have you, or have you stood there waiting for a miracle, know before you give me excuses, I want you to explain to your father what's happened and see what he gives you." All Elsie could do was look at the ground and wait for her father. Her father was a kind man who understood life, he could be very fair and very strict, so , of course Elsie was worried.
