She ran out before she could be embarass herself anymore.
"Mum what's wrong, isn't it ours." Harold hugged his mum, and gave a stern look at Elsie. When they got home they sat there ,waiting, waiting for a miricale as their mother would say. Out of the blue the doorbell rang. Elsie stooped over to the beaten down door and opened it.
"Hello stranger," it was her dad - the same greeting he had given her for five full years. But strange enough not the same expression on Elsie's face.
"Whats wrong dumpling?"
"I've, well you see...I've"
"She's lost our ration book!" Shouted Harold as he greeted his dad with a tough hand shake.
"Well you won't mind if I give you all a present to cheer you up." Both of the children ran to him and holded out there hands. Dropped into both their hands was a was a packet of gummys and strange enough in Elsies was a ration book. Elsie counldn't believe her eyes.
"Were did you get this, my husband has been traded in for a sniffer dog next you'll be winning the daily round.Im not happy that iv'e trailed around the streets all day for nothing." She started to shake her head and glanced at Elsie who was over-joyed with pleasure.
