The next morning Elsie had to do twice as much jobs as she usually did including the dirty horrible ones like beating the carpet. After doing all her jobs her mother let her go out laking (playing out).
"Well done Elsie I am pleased with the jobs you have done, but if this happens again you shall have to do even more jobs, and it will include the carpet beating"
